Tsukuba City Water and Sewage Department, Sewage Management Division applied for the Manhole Card Project and made a card of the city's specially designed manhole. The project has started as a cooperative project of MLIT (the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) and JSWA (Japan Sewage Works) for public service announcement on manholes. Manhole card(s) are designed in the nationally unified format. And now Tsukuba City has made the English version of Tsukuba City Manhole Card.
What are manhole cards made for?
Manhole Cards are made as one way of the public service announcement of governments aiming for getting citizens familiar with the sewage service, hoping that cards will be a good opportunity for people to be interested in the sewage system. We also wish those who have been already interested in the water supply and the sewage system to have deeper knowledge about the service.
The Location of the Specially Designed Manhole of the City:
The longitude and the latitude on the bottom of the front surface of the Manhole Card indicate the location of the specially designed manhole for Tsukuba. The manhole is on the sidewalk just in front of the Tsukuba Station Kōban (police box).
Where is the card available?
From April 1, 2017, at the counter of Waterworks Customer Services Center, on the first floor of Tsukuba City Hall, the English version of the Manhole Card becomes available. One person can get one card by completing a simple questionnaire. Waterworks Customer Services Center is open everyday from 8:30 am to 5:15 pm except public holidays and the Year End and New Year holidays. Please note that we do not accept any requests for giving away or reserving cards by phone, fax or email. The same rule is set at all the municipal offices throughout Japan.
