Since the dawn of the history in Japan people have admired the beauty of Mt. Tsukuba and lots of poems have been inspired by it. This poem was written by Yozei In, an emperor in the 9-10th century. It is one of the most popular poems in Tsukuba and is also enjoyed throughout Japan.

Tsukubane no
Mine yori otsuru
Minanogawa
Koiso tsumorite
Fuchi to narinuru

Just like the Minano River
Gathering little streams as it goes
From every peak of Mt. Tsukuba
The stream of my love
Keeps flowing into the deep
