The New Residency Management System (updated: Nov. 25, 2011)
A new residency management system will go into effect in July 2012. The existing system of alien registration will be abolished and the new "Resident Card" will be issued. The Alien Registration Card will change over to the Resident Card by request or at the time you extend your visa after the new system is implemented. Until then, residents are asked to keep their Alien Registration Card since it will be deemed equivalent to the Resident Card.
