In order to alleviate congestion at all locations, the dates for General Health Examination locations will be designated beforehand. All residents of Tsukuba who are insured by Kokumin Kenko Hoken and are registered foreign residents of the City will receive a "Kenkou no Goannai" notice with their designated appointment information. Although day and time changes can be accommodated, you may find yourself "at the end of the line" - so to speak. Individual burden costs will change for both City-administered General Health Screenings and for those at Healthcare Providers.

Eligibility requirements have changed.

1. Preventive Health Examinations for those aged 65 years and above

Only those aged 65 years and above are eligible for the "basic" Preventive Health Examinations. This change will take effect from April and will be administered simultaneously along with the Basic Health Screenings below.

Whether electing to undergo a City–administered General Health Screening or a Health Screening at a Healthcare Provider, a document called the "Basic Checklist" will be required. Eligible residents, meaning those who are National Health Insurance Policy Holders, will have the checklist along with a publication called the "Health Examination Guide" sent to them. Fill out the checklist and bring it with you to the examination .

2. Basic Health Screening (aka. Physical)

Adults aged 20~39 years of age are eligible.

3. Health Screenings for Uterine Cancer

All women aged 20~39 years of age are eligible. You may choose to undergo the City-administered screening or one administered by an independent healthcare provider. It is recommended that those who are undergoing this for the first time do so at a healthcare provider.

4. Changes in Breast Cancer Screenings provided by Healthcare Providers

In addition to a routine Clinical Breast Exam, Echo Mammography (ultrasound image taken of the breast), and a Mammogram (Breast X-ray) have been added to the screening schedule. The nature of the breast examination to be undertaken will depend on the examinee’s age and past medical history.

For further details, refer to the City publication, "Life Plan Sukoyaka – 2006". It is written in Japanese and is currently being translated into several languages. This publication is scheduled to be distributed at the end of March and will also be available for perusal at all City Hall branch offices and community centers.

Those who opt to undergo a colorectal screening for colon/rectal cancer are asked to prepare a stool sample. Stool sample packet stocks will be made available at all community centers, as well as the Fureai Plaza, and Ikiiki Plaza from March 1. Please pickup a packet at least 3 days before your scheduled exam.
