The 53rd International Speech Contest in Japanese (updated Jan. 13, 2012)

People from around the world will discuss their opinions regarding International Society. This contest has been held since 1960, and will be broadcasted on NHK television. In addition, the contents of the speeches will be used in the junior high and high school textbooks. This year, the contest will be held in Beppu City, Ooita Prefecture, on June 2, from 13:00 at Beppu International Convention Center, B-con Plaza.

The 21st Speech Contest for Foreigners (updated Nov. 11, 2011)

15 contestants wanted to give a 5-minute-long speech in Japanese on a theme which helps further deepen international understanding. (Must not involve political, commercial, or religious propaganda)

• Date: Saturday, February 18, 2012
• Time: 13:00-16:30
• Place: Ibaraki Prefectural Culture Center (Small Hall), Mito City, Semba-cho, Higashikubo 697
• Eligibility: Foreigners living in Ibaraki Prefecture who have not attended elementary or junior high school in Japan
• Application: Send in application form, your script and recording of the speech in form of cassette tape, CD or MD. If there are many applications, participants will be selected based on their script. Application must be received by December 13.
