Every year one hundred Christmas trees decorate the space in front of AiAi Mall in Tsukuba Center. In 2004, the overall theme was the arrival of Tsukuba Express, but there were also many other themed trees. There is a lighting ceremony in early December and the trees stay up until just after Christmas. A number of events also take place in this area while the trees are there. (*In 2008 the venue was changed to Iias-Tsukuba, the newly opened shopping mall near Kenkyu-gakuen station of TX line. The venue for 2009: TBA.)
