Have you Applied for Child Allowance (Kodomo teate)? (updated: Nov. 25, 2011)

The Child Allowance system was revised and has gone into effect as of October 2011. All parents or guardians must apply, including those who had been receiving child allowance up until September.

[Amount and period of child allowance payments]

  • Under 3-year-old: 15,000 yen/month
  • Over 3-year-old and prior to elementary school graduation (for first and second children): 10,000 yen/month
  • Over 3-year-old and prior to elementary school graduation (for third child and subsequent children): 15,000 yen/month
  • Junior high school students: 10,000 yen/month

[Changes in the new system]

  • The child is required to reside in Japan (except in the case the child is studying aborad).
  • In the case the child is living in an orphanage, the director of the facility will be the recipient.
  • Unpaid daycare fees may be collected from child allowance.

If you have not yet applied for child allowance, please visit Children's Services Division at Tsukuba City Hall or branch offices.
